The total value of the loans is most often up to CZK 20,000 (18%). Czechs then borrow large amounts of more than half a million crowns (17%). The most common reason is lack of cash (62%). This is followed by the unwillingness to wait and save (20%), or the respondents do not have the possibility to save enough money (15%).

The payment morality of Czechs remains high

The total volume of household loans increased by 5 billion to CZK 2 trillion and 225 billion at the end of September, with the share of non-performing ones being around CZK 28.9 billion, or 1.2%. It has been at this level since last June. For mortgages, the share is 0.6%. This figure has not changed since May 2022.

The survey was conducted in November 2023 on a representative sample of the country's population aged 18-79. The sample size is 1000 people.
