Interest in this new form of support is already evident from the number of applications received by the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic, which handles the administrative aspects of the program.

“We have already received over two thousand applications, according to which applicants plan to borrow over 5 billion crowns,” says Petr Valdman, director of the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic. “There is clearly the greatest interest in insulation, as the measure that contributes most to a home’s overall energy savings. Replacing heat sources and installing residential photovoltaic power plants also make up a significant portion of the energy-saving measures,” the director notes.

Representatives of the construction and energy-efficient renovation sectors also welcome the program’s new format. According to them, the availability of long-term financial support from the state is one of the key conditions for accelerating the renovation of the housing stock in the Czech Republic.

“We unequivocally welcome the new system of government support. Motivation alone is not enough to achieve the necessary acceleration in the pace of renovations; as we have long emphasized, predictable market conditions, high-quality project preparation, and accessible financing options are also essential. We consider the integration of all these aspects—accessible consulting, guidance through renovation passports, and a financial support system—into a single, comprehensive system to be an important step. It will enable households to take a comprehensive approach to home renovation, resulting in high-quality homes with lower energy consumption and greater resilience for the future,” says Marta Gellová, director of the Šance pro budovy alliance.

Owners of single-family homes, homeowners’ associations, and housing cooperatives can apply for compensation for interest and loan costs under the “New Green Savings” program. Support is available for both partial and comprehensive renovations of single-family homes and apartment buildings. The interest-free loan can be used to finance measures that directly reduce a building’s energy consumption—such as insulation, replacement of the heating system, installation of photovoltaic systems, energy-efficient water heating, ventilation with heat recovery, and the use of heat from wastewater. In addition, green roofs or systems for utilizing rainwater or graywater can also be supported.

For single-family homes, the loan amount can reach up to 2 million crowns, depending on the scope of the renovation, with a repayment period of up to 25 years. For apartment buildings, the maximum loan amount is based on the number of residential units, with up to 750,000 crowns available per apartment.

Under the announced call for applications, banks and building societies may provide households with interest-free loans from the New Green Savings Program totaling up to 50 billion crowns, until October 31, 2029, or until the allocated funds are exhausted.
