An international bank based in Basel, Switzerland. It provides a venue for monetary cooperation between some European central banks, the Bank of Japan and the US Federal Reserve. It was founded in 1930 to settle Germany's reparations after World War I. It is currently engaged in monitoring and collecting data on international banking activities and issuing rules for banking regulation at the international level.
