Embossed payment card

a payment card which, in addition to an electromagnetic strip (or chip) used for withdrawals at ATMs and for payment at merchants using an electronic terminal, is equipped with embossing, i.e. embossed writing that enables payment at merchants using a mechanical reader (called an imprinter or iron). It can therefore be used to pay in shops that are not equipped with an electronic terminal for payment by credit card or in cases where, for some reason, electronic communication via such a terminal fails.
